| What We Offer |
Academic Information
The Bible Institute of Ohio is what the name implies---we are an institute and not a college. We are not authorized to grant degrees for completing our courses. However, the academic level of our classroom work and course offerings are definitely on the college level. In fact, some of our courses are not offered in most colleges until graduate school.
BIO is not an accredited institution. We have never sought such recognition. However, several colleges (some accredited) have agreed in writing to receive, and have received, at least some of our credits. A few other schools have accepted our credits without prior agreement to do so. Our students have done well in those institutions and some have testified that their BIO training was a great help to them in their college work and that it compared very favorably with their degree programs.
Programs of Study
The Bible Institute of Ohio offers a three-year diploma in either Pastoral Studies or General Bible Studies. A one year certificate of Bible study is also offered.
One-Year Certificate
BIO offers a One-year Program consisting of the "First Year" courses in the curriculum. The Program is a well-designed package and course substitutions are only permitted with approval of the administration. This provides an excellent year of study for a student who is not quite sure of what he wishes to do with his life. Upon completion, a Certificate is awarded to recognize a job well done. The One-year Certificate requires 34 credit hours.
Three-Year Diploma
If during the year the student decides the Lord wants him to prepare for the ministry we offer a thorough Three-year Program. The student merely adds the "Second Year" and the "Third Year" courses in the curriculum and he is awarded a Diploma in either Pastor Studies or General
Bible Studies. The Pastor Studies Diploma requires 100 credit hours, and the General Bible Studies Diploma requires 92 credit hours. This Three-year Program will provide more hours of Bible than most four-year college programs.
Tuition
Tuition for each semester hour (11 semester hours or fewer) is $70.00, and tuition for a full-time student (12-19 semester hours) is $750.00.
Library
The Bible Institute of Ohio has a well-stocked library of Bible study helps and theological resources available for student use.
Student Life Programs
In keeping with its purpose to train men and women in the knowledge of the Word of God and to equip them for full-time Christian service, BlO seeks to inculcate into the students a Christ-centered philosophy of life. This will be demonstrated in their personal and public lives.
Chapel
To aid the students in their spiritual growth, Chapel attendance is required. The Chapel services will feature fundamental Christian speakers from various ministries to challenge the students with an introduction to many of God’s choice servants, expose them to varied opportunities of Christian service, challenge them to live well-disciplined lives of service for the Lord, and plant a pioneering spirit in their hearts.
Missionary Conference
Each year a Missionary Conference will be held to keep fundamental missions before the student body. Visiting mission speakers will challenge the students with the Great Commission to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
William Ashbrook Lectures
In keeping with our fundamentalist-separatist distinctives, a series of lectures will be given each year by a visiting speaker. Focus will be upon the great issues of the day in earnestly contending “for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
Prayer
Students will be encouraged to maintain daily devotions and develop a strong prayer life. Prayer meetings in the school and the homes will add to the students’ personal enrichment. A Day of Prayer will be held each semester to intercede for the needs of God's people.
Local Church
Each student will be required to be a member of a fundamental, Bible-preaching church. Each student will be required to attend regularly the Sunday and mid-week services of one of the fundamental churches in the BlO area.
Christian Service
Each student will be expected to seek a Christian work assignment. Under the direction of able fundamental pastors and Christian leaders, the student will be discipled in the skills of faithful service for Christ.
Christian Counseling
Faculty and staff are concerned for the individual needs of the student. Each student will have an advisor to assist and guide him in his Christian life.
Student Activities
Student Housing
No accommodations are provided on campus. Students requiring housing will be housed in the homes of Christian families assigned by the Administration or in apartments leased by the school. All housing arrangements must be approved by the school. Additional regulations are incorporated in the Student Handbook.
Transportation
Public transportation is available in the area. Students will be allowed to own and operate motor vehicles. All motor vehicles must be registered with the school at the beginning of each semester.
Health
Each student is required to have some type of hospital and medical insurance with proof given at the time of registration. BlO does not accept responsibility for illness on or off the campus.
Employment
BlO is located in the metropolitan Columbus area, which provides ample opportunity for those needing employment. The school will assist the student seeking employment when needed.
Student Conduct
Students are expected to set a good example in Christian testimony and to live daily separated lives. Each student is to order his life by the precepts and principles of the Word of God. BlO has chosen to adopt a dress code and certain regulations to help the student achieve these aims and goals. By virtue of his acceptance into BlO, each student accepts his responsibilities as outlined in the Student Handbook. Those unable to accept these standards forfeit their privilege to continue as students in BlO. The Student Handbook will be given to the student at the time of enrollment.
