In John 1:1 we read, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Then, in verse 14 of the same Chapter we read, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory as of the only begotten of the Father.) full of grace and truth." According to these scriptures, Jesus Christ is the Word of God. In John 5:39, Jesus said, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of me." This is why it is of the utmost importance to learn how to study God's Word. You will need both the Old and New Testaments for this study.
