There is a woeful lack of knowledge concerning "right" and "wrong" these days. Moral conduct is of little concern to many. That there are proper rules of conduct is denied by a large segment of society. The question is often asked, "Who sets the rules, anyhow?" The answer to that question is, "God sets the rules." He has the right, the power, and the wisdom to set them, and He has set them. He has also revealed them in His Word, the Bible.
The writers of the Bible communicated what God wanted said. II Peter tells us how it was done: "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." Note that they were "holy men," not subtle deceivers. They were not writing according to "the will of man", but wrote "as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." Thus, we would expect the divine rules of the Bible to be different from those adopted by society.
God will judge mankind by His rules, not those of society. To break God's rules is to sin. To sin is to invite God's judgment for sin, which is death, according to Romans 6:23. Does it not seem wise, then to consult the rule Book? The rule Book will tell you what God demands, wherein you have fallen short, what the consequences are and what the remedy is.
Jesus said, "Search
the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and
they are they which testify of me." "The wages of sin
is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Wages are earned; a
gift is unmerited. What you do as a sinner will earn you death.
But if you will trust Jesus Christ as your Savior, He will give
you eternal life. "But as many as received him, to them
gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on his name" (John 1:12.) "Believe on
the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house"
(Acts 16:31).
