This year Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on April 7. Some will say, "So what? That is not important." Others will say, "You can't prove that. Were you there?" Let us see what the Bible says about those two responses to the celebration.
About the importance of the resurrection of Christ, the Apostle Paul said, "And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished" (I Corinthians 15:17, 18). He follows that declaration by saying, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming" (vv.22, 23). The Christian's promise of resurrection life is totally dependent upon the resurrection of Christ and his personal relationship with Christ established by faith. Therefore, it is of utmost importance.
Paul declares in the same book and chapter, verses 3-8, "For I delivered unto you . . . . how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once: of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also. . . ."
God said that truth
is established at the mouth of "two or three witnesses".
Doesn't it seem that He really stresses the importance and
certainty of Christ's resurrection when He offers testimony of
more than 515 witnesses? I can think of no Bible truth with more
proof offered for its veracity. Since your salvation depends upon
it, any hope of everlasting life you might have requires it, and
God's Word declares it and offers proof of it, you would do well
to believe it with all your heart. Trust the risen, living Savior
today and receive eternal life. Then, and only then, will the
blessed hope of your own resurrection be yours.
