Eventually, why not now?
Most of us have, at one time or another, put off a dreaded task. Even though we may have benefitted from the finished job, we just didnt want to do it. At least, not now.
God tells us of something which we are free to do now, that it will greatly benefit us, but that if we put it off too long we will have to do it, but without the benefit.
Romans 10:9-11 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
As a sinner, you are free to do that now. The benefit which you will receive is salvation, the full pardon for all of your sins. Jesus Christ has paid the penalty for them. God has declared His acceptance of the penalty by raising Christ from the dead. If you will confess your sins, acknowledge Christ as your Savior and receive Him as such by faith, God is willing to forgive you for His sake and to declare you righteous.
You will have to make that confession someday. In Philippians 2:8b-11 Paul says of Christ, ". . . he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
But if you put it off until you, die you will lose the benefit. Listen to Jesus words in Matthew 7:21-23: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name have done many wonderful works? And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
You are free to trust and confess Christ today. You can be saved from you sin by doing so. That is an eternal benefit. Or you can put it off. However, you will do it. But if you wait and do it at Gods judgment throne, you will be condemned by your own confession. Shouldnt you do it now?
