Most of us start our lives hoping for a bright and prosperous future. Some expect it to be handed to them on a platter. Some plan carefully and work diligently toward one. Others may simply inherit one. All of these may secure one, but any one of them may lose it. That is because these proposed futures are only temporal and fleeting.
But in 1 Peter 1:3-5 we read of an eternal spiritual inheritance: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."
This bright future is based upon the integrity of God, upon His "mercy", upon the "resurrection of Jesus Christ", and upon the "power of God". It is also based upon a relationship with God Who has "begotten us again" by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8, 9).
Now for the important questions: do you recognize Jesus Christ to be the Son of God? To enjoy the blessed future Peter wrote about, you must believe on Jesus Christ as the Son of God. If He is less than He claimed, then He is not worthy to be trusted with anyones future.
Do you believe that Christ died for your sins and that He rose from the dead for your justification? If you have not acknowledged yourself a hopeless and helpless sinner before God, you recognize no need of a Savior to pay your penalty, nor do you recognize any need for justification.
Do you then have an inheritance reserved in heaven for you? If you have trusted Christ as your Savior, you are "an heir of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ" (Romans 8:17). As such, you have an inheritance reserved in heaven for you. It is yours, God is reserving it, and no one can take it away.
Is your redeemed soul being kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation? Or are you trying to add to the finished work of Christ by keeping commandments, joining a church, and trying to persevere by your own strength and determination?
And finally, are you ready to be revealed (as a saved believer in Christ) in the last time, that is, when Christ returns for the redeemed? He is coming back again for His redeemed saints. He knows who they are. He will not overlook a single one. He will take them all unto Himself, thus to be with Him for all eternity.
The Apostle Paul, in Titus 2:13, refers to this as the "blessed hope" of every believer in Christ. He refers to it as the "glorious appearing" of our Savior, Jesus Christ. There could be no more blessed nor any brighter future than that offered by our God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Make it your future by trusting Him today as your own personal Savior.
