Resolution On the Support of Our Country Through Christian Prayer

WHEREAS, all Americans have been overwhelmed by the horror of the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001; and,

WHEREAS, an attack of this magnitude has brought even the most proud and self-sufficient of people to seek something greater than themselves; and,

WHEREAS, our country has recently focused on prayer to some supreme being through national, state, and local prayer services; and,

WHEREAS, these prayer services have been largely a display of religious pluralism - praying to the god of Mohammed, Abraham, and Jesus Christ; and,

WHEREAS, the Scripture clearly assert that the only prayer that is heard of one offered by an obedient, born-again believer (Psalm 66:18; John 9:31; 15:7) to God through Jesus Christ (John 14:6, 13, 14; 16:24; I Timothy 3:5) by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26, 27); and,

WHEREAS, because of the above fact, only a fraction of the so-called prayers being offered reach the notice of God (John 14:6); therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that we as true believers who pray through Jesus Christ and as members of the Ohio Bible Fellowship at the 2001 Fall Conference meeting at Calvary Baptist Church in Willard, Ohio, will strive all the more to support our military and country in general through the great privilege and responsibility we have in Christian prayer (II Chronicles 7:14 - in principle); and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we remind our people that the Scriptures consider the many pluralistic and ecumenical prayer meetings as sinful hypocrisy (John 14:6; I Timothy 2:5); and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we will be more vigilant to lead our churches in following the Scripture's commands to pray for our government leaders to have wisdom, strength, and respect for God's laws (I Timothy 2:1,2); and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we will be intent to use the present opportunities of this recent tragedy, man's new-found reminder of the uncertainty of life, and our religious freedom to proclaim that Jesus Christ (I Timothy 2:3, 4) is the only way to come to the Father (John 14:6), whether it be for salvation or subsequently in prayer.
