Resolution on National Needs

WHEREAS, the Bible declares, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12); and,

WHEREAS, The United States of America is a testimony to that truth, having been settled and founded by mostly Christian men and women as evidenced by the content and language of its founding documents; and,

WHEREAS, The Bible also says that "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God" (Psalm 9:17); and,

WHEREAS, the American Civil Liberties Union has relentlessly pursued an agenda to eliminate the "free exercise" of religion guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution; and,

WHEREAS, this has been done over a period of several decades with hardly a whimper of protest from "we, the people," including Christian people; and,

WHEREAS, our nation has basically forgotten God, and the government, through the Supreme Court, has taken official action against Him by banning the posting of the Ten Commandments in public buildings, forbidding Bible reading and prayer in our public schools and forbidding the display of such things as Christian nativity scenes on court house lawns; and,

WHEREAS, it appears that perhaps God is getting our attention by the recent terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and an apparent aborted attack in Pennsylvania; and,

WHEREAS, the biblical response to sin is confession and repentance (I John 1:9) with restoration of fellowship with God as the result;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the members and delegates of the Ohio Bible Fellowship, meeting in our Fall Conference on October 12, 13, 2001, at Calvary Baptist Church, Willard, Ohio, acknowledge our apathy or preoccupation with other things while anti-Christian elements were making their inroads; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we seek the face of our God in contrite repentance and that we challenge the people of our churches to do the same; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we pray for our nation, our leaders, and our fellow citizens, that our attitudes and decisions will be in harmony with the mind and will of God; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we redouble our efforts to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ while their hearts are tender and they are seeking answers to this atrocity; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we seek to so influence our society by living and proclaiming the truth of God that a return of spiritual apathy and carelessness would become extremely difficult.
